Informational resources on Texas turtles and alligators, a map of Texas counties, a glossary, a bibliography, and indexes of common and scientific names complete the volume. Appendices provide brief accounts of species that occurred prehistorically in Texas and non-established exotic species, as well as a table of Texas’ major watersheds and the turtle diversity in each one. The authors, two of the state’s most knowledgeable herpetologists, open the book with a broad overview of turtle natural history, conservation biology, observation, and captive maintenance before providing a key to Texas turtles and accounts of the various turtle families and species. It offers detailed species accounts, range maps, and excellent color photographs to aid in field identification. Texas Turtles & Crocodilians is the first complete identification guide to all the state’s turtles and to its single alligator. From the Sabine River to El Paso, and from the Rio Grande to the Panhandle, thirty-one native and established exotic turtle species are definitely known in Texas, along with one crocodilian, the American Alligator. Texas has a large and diverse turtle population, with forms that are found nowhere else (Cagle’s Map Turtle and the Texas Map Turtle) and wide-ranging species that barely touch the state, including the Painted Turtles and the Rough-footed Mud Turtle. They’re a tangle of groping limbs, hot mouths, and clear intent. The back door of a club opens and spits Oskar Voyjik and two others into the alley. I stare at my screen, watching the CCTV footage that’s gone viral. I have free rein to do whatever it takes, and it turns out whatever it takes is Oskar. If I can’t turn Oskar’s entitled party boy image around, we’ll both be shown the door. He may be San Jose royalty, but with the stunts Oskar’s been pulling, the team owner is down to his last thread of patience. I’ve got Lane’s sole focus now in all the wrong ways.īeing appointed head of San Jose’s PR department was a dream come true … until I met Oskar Voyjik. It might have been a stunt to get the attention of Lane Pierce, San Jose’s new PR manager, but I didn’t realize what the consequences would be when I did it. After a little mishap in an alleyway with CCTV, my public image needs fixing. The game players create imaginary characters who adventure together through a vision of Earth as it might be, where magic is real and heroes exist… Hawkmoon is an easily-played game of fantasy roleplaying, part of the Eternal Champion line of roleplaying games available from Chaosium. The Eternal Champion is a mystical hero who lives upon all planes of existence, in all ages and times. Twenty Years later, a new updated edition was published as a Monograph (which was originally drafted to be released by Darcsyde Productions). Only one additional supplement, The Shattered Isle, was released in this initial run. Released in 1986, Chaosium’s Hawkmoon looked to build on the Stormbringer ruleset, allowing players to act out adventures in the Tragic Millennium. Dante again meets and memorializes Beatrice in his magnum opus The Divine Comedy. The two did not exchange any more words, yet this encounter would remain one of the most memorable of Dante’s life. Walking down the street with her two friends and veiled in a dress, the young Beatrice looked at Dante to say hello. This changed, however, when Dante was eighteen years old. Over the course of the next nine years, Dante saw Beatrice occasionally, but he did not have the chance to speak to her. It was at this moment that, in a chivalric manner befitting of a young medieval man, Dante fell in love. Here Dante reveals that he first looked at Beatrice when he was only nine years old, and she was only eight. In the Convivio, Dante writes about his admiration for a Florentine girl named Beatrice. I’ve discovered that many readers in M/M want all conflict to be resolved at the end of a book, even if there’s a followup planned. Even if that’s not the author’s intent at all. But break up that same story in 20,000-word chunks and it begins to feel like an attempt to milk the market. If each installation of a series is novel-length, fine. Pricing ebooks is tricky anyway, but generally readers don’t want to feel like they’re being strung along with crumbs of a story to inflate the price of the series. Unfortunately, there are considerations that go far beyond format. We can create works that are just as long or short as they need to be. Because more and more of us are consuming our fiction on e-readers these days, we’re no longer bound to the size constraints inherent in traditional paper publishing. I think that having a single, focused mini-crisis and resolution happen in 15-20,000 words, while maintaining a longer series crisis until the last story, feels exactly right. For me, unfolding a story in a series of novelettes is absolutely the perfect way to go. While chunking is a short-term memory phenomenon, conceptually I chunk my stories in 15,000-word increments. (And have you ever had anyone giving you a phone number pause for breath at the wrong part of it, like after the first five digits? Talk about confusing!) Recalling a random seven-digit number might be difficult, but when we add a dash after the first three digits, it becomes easier. “Chunking” information is a method we use to recall things. You would see building after building and people just standing around. Off the highway, on State Street, the number 29 bus would take you on a ghetto tour, passing all those projects. The buildings stared you down, their windows like eyes, watching. If you drove up the 90/94, a highway built to separate Blacks and whites without Jim Crow language, the Robert Taylor Homes loomed off to the side of your car. All the spaces around the building belonged to them, but we had our own spot, and for the longest time, no one bothered us there. There were dudes draped around the building’s opening, standing guard in the parking lot, the tunnel inside the building leading to the stairway, everywhere, really. Sometimes you’d catch us flowing through the masses of guys in white tees on a quick trip to buy candy from Ms. By the summer of 1999, me, Precious, and Stacia-all twelve years old-ran around in this tight formation, snapping through the block in neon colors like a school of tropical fish. (Heck, even in a child-friendly place like Disney World you could see this!) Are you going to keep your children out of busy towns too? If you were to walk your child through a busy town you would likewise occasionally see people smoking and/or drinking. The pictures in this book portray the busy goings on in a town (on streets, near construction sites, at shopping centers, in parks, etc.). truthfully, I had to go back and look, as this just not something I ever noticed despite how long I have spent looking at it. Regarding the complaint by another reviewer that there are characters seen smoking and drinking in this book. but adults and older children will love the discoveries they make in it too. I especially recommend it to families with young children on the verge of reading. We have quite literally spent hours looking through it together, there being so much going on on every page, and so many (charming!) stories to follow as you page through it's wonderfully illustrated pages. But if we had to narrow down our collection to our favorite one hundred or so I am sure this book would make the cut. we watch very little TV, and instead spend hours reading books, either independently or to each other. The first book is Remedy Maker (reviewed here) In order to understand what is going on in Troll-y Yours it helps a lot to have read Remedy Maker.
